Your office mailbox, inside AI chat
“What did the accountant send?” “Who asked for a quote?” — from any email provider that offers IMAP.
The connection reads your mailbox over IMAP with the details your email provider or administrator gives you, for example your hosting provider’s email or Gmail with an app password. Claude, ChatGPT and AI Chat can search and read messages without changing anything in the mailbox. If you want, you can also enable sending through SMTP: every email first appears as a preview, and the AI asks for your approval before sending it.
What you can do
Search your email
Filter by sender, recipient, subject, text, dates and unread status, in any folder. Newest first, with paging back to older mail.
Read a message
The text of the email, without loading remote images or links. The message is not marked as read.
Attachments
Name, type and size of every attachment. On request, also the text of up to 3 TXT, CSV, DOCX or XLSX files; PDFs and images return file details only.
Folders
Your mailbox folders (up to 200), so you search in the right place: Inbox, Sent or customer folders.
Connection check
Confirms the IMAP login and SMTP details without sending a message, and shows whether sending is enabled.
Sending (optional)
Plain text to up to 20 recipients, always from your own address. A preview first, then your approval. No attachments or HTML.
Example questions
Use them as they are — or in your own words.
The tools it gives Claude
Reading uses IMAP in read-only mode. The send tool exists only if you enable sending on the connection.
- Connection and sending status, without sending a message
- List folders
- Search messages with filters (sender, subject, text, dates, unread)
- Read a message and its attachments
- Optional: send plain text with a preview and confirmation

Add the workspace MCP to ChatGPT or Claude once. Advisable.AI gives each user access to their own and explicitly shared connections across supported systems.
Explore the MCP gateway →How it connects
Ask your email provider or administrator for the IMAP server and the mailbox password. For Gmail: imap.gmail.com, port 993, with 2-Step Verification and an App Password, if your account offers one.
In Advisable.AI, open Connections → New connection → Email (IMAP / SMTP), enter the details and test the connection. The test does not send email. Leave sending off if you only need reading.
With an active workspace subscription, buy a connection slot for €10 before VAT. Then ask from AI Chat, or add the workspace MCP to ChatGPT or Claude and approve access.
Frequently asked
Which email providers does it work with?+
Those that allow IMAP sign-in with the account password or an app password, such as many hosting providers’ email or Gmail (which needs 2-Step Verification and may be blocked by account policy). The server is entered by name (hostname), not IP, and must be public; internal addresses are refused. Microsoft 365 and Outlook.com generally require OAuth, which this connection does not support.
Does it change anything in my mailbox?+
No. Folders are opened read-only: messages are not marked as read, moved or deleted. There is no tool to delete, move or flag messages.
Can it send email without my approval?+
No. Sending is off by default. If you enable it, every email must first be previewed with its sender, recipients, subject and text, and the AI asks for your explicit approval before sending. The confirmation code works once, for that exact message, for 10 minutes. The connection does not save a copy in Sent; that depends on your provider. Routines only read and never send email.
What does it read from attachments?+
The name, type and size of every attachment. On request, also the text of up to 3 TXT, CSV, DOCX or XLSX files of up to 512 KB each. PDFs and images return file details only. For messages over 2 MB, only the headers and the attachment list are read.
How are my details protected?+
Connections use TLS only; unencrypted connections and invalid certificates are refused. The password is stored encrypted (AES-256-GCM) and never reaches Claude or ChatGPT. The AI is instructed to treat email content as data, never as instructions.
